Citric acid (citric anhydrate) is a natural, weak acid with excellent descaling properties. Suitable for descaling small household appliances (coffee and tea makers, etc.). In general, it does everything vinegar does, but unlike vinegar, it gives an odourless clean. Can also be used for descaling metal surfaces (taps, sinks, dishes) and tiles.
To descale a coffee maker: mix 50g of citric acid with 1 litre of water in a measuring jug until the powder dissolves. Pour this into the water tank of the coffee maker and then boil the whole tank of water, without coffee. Then a tank of plain water have to boiled down, after which the machine can be used properly.
Do not use citric acid on enamel and marble surfaces or on acid-sensitive floors.
